Exercise - How do you know if you're doing it right?

There are questions in life that are impossible to answer. For example, no one knows where all their missing socks go or why their cat sits and stares at the wall for hours on end or what my husband has against the laundry basket, but some of our greatest confusion comes with exercise. We do cardio, we lift weights, we struggle to put together what seems like a reasonable program but the question remains: Are we doing it right?

This question is tough to answer because how much we need is an individual thing and it isn't a cut and dried process. In fact, many experienced exercisers figure things out the hard way - They try different workouts, different schedules and different exercises to find out what works and what doesn't. They may even say that it's a long process of trial and error that they're still working on.

The reason it's so difficult is because you expect a lot from your exercise program. You want one that: You can live with on a daily basis, helps you reach your goals, fits with your lifestyle, feels good, tastes great and keeps you healthy.

That's a pretty tall order and, for that reason, it's a process that deserves more time than we're often willing to give.

That said, there are ways to figure out if you're on the right track. Looking at the exercise guidelines, the results you're getting and the enjoyment factor are just three things that can give you an honest assessment of your workouts.

That's what I'm talking about in my latest article and I'd love to hear from you as well. How do you know if you're doing it right? Do you ever know for sure? Leave a comment and tell us what you think.
